The present study is an update of an earlier assessment of warm-water fish farming potential in Africa, CIFA Technical Paper n°27 (1994). The study assesses locations and areal expanses that have potential for warm-water fish farming in continental Africa, based on previous estimates for Africa and for Latin America. Models for assessing both small scale and commercial potential were developed by using a geographic information system (GIS). A bioenergetics model was incorporated to the GIS to predict, for the first time, fish yields accross Africa.
