"On n'est pas dans le futurisme, mais dans un drame bourgeois ou un thriller atmosphérique"
Texts by Michael Bierut, Morgan Clendaniel, Steven Heller, Edward Morris and Dmitri Siegel This book brings together the strongest contemporary graphic design promoting sustainability and the fight against climate change. This movement is about a new form of patriotism, one that exhibits pride of place, but not fear of others.
Included in the book is a compilation of the best posters on the theme of sustainability by a variety of contemporary artists (both emerging and established). They never rest on the tired slogans of the past ('Save the Earth' and so on) but demonstrate that graphic design does not passively respond to the zeitgeist - it helps shape it. Artists include Paul Elliman, Shepard Fairey, DJ Spooky, Geoff McFetridge, James Victore and Vier5.
The book includes fifty posters as tear-outs while the texts look back to posters and ideas that set the stage for the current movement (World War II posters, the environmental movement in the 1960s and 1970s) and address the current state of the poster.
A section on action, has documentation of designs at work on buses, billboards, protesters' placards, graffiti across the world.
