Charles Anderson, FASLA, is a landscape architect and urbanist who focuses on civic expressions that reveal ecological and social phenomena, processes, and relationships. His studio continues the work that Charles Anderson developed with Anderson and Ray, a firm founded in 1994. Over the past ten years, he has received nine awards for design excellence from the National and Washington Chapters of the American Society of Landscape Architects, including five consecutive national design awards. Projects include the Seattle Art Museum's Olympic Sculpture Park on Seattle's downtown waterfront; the Arthur Ross Terrace at the Museum of Natural History in Central Park, New York City; Mount St. Helens National Volcanic Monument; a two-acre urban plaza and park for the Anchorage Museum of History and Art; the Lake Washington Environmental Education Sequence; and the International Peace Garden, on the border of The United States and Canada.
Anderson designs artful, unique, site specific, and well-crafted places that remain adaptive and flexible. He has a record of large and complex multi-disciplinary projects completed with internationally recognized architects and artists. His knowledge of native plants and natural systems is field-tested and thoughtfully employed to ensure that each design is appropriate to its place in its neighborhood, city, region and the world.
