The 21st century will be the century of energy. the questions and problems surrounding energy are global and influenced by major geopolitical issues (demography, development, water, health, environment). tomorrow's engineers and managers will be confronted with industrial and strategic choices concerning energy that they must be able to anticipate. in the first part the authors present an inventory, on varying levels, of energy consumption, reserves and resources. the second part studies new energy solutions that must respond to major constraints on all levels and anticipate high growth on a global scale. these technologies will have to include rational use of existing energy sources and the development of thermal, cold and hydrogen use.
