So begins writer Ruth Bains Hartmann in this record of a 1968 summer holiday in coastal Maine that she shared with her husband, the renowned Magnum photojournalist Erich Hartmann. Her words and his images form an intimate distillation of a particular time and place. Long married, well traveled and often separated by work, the couple used their summer to claim a calm interval together, each recording their parallel yet distinctly different experiences.
