African tales belong to the oral tradition. In general, parents or adults tell them to children in the evenings, around a fire or under a blue and starry sky. This book is a collection of eleven Congolese tales the protagonists of which are both human beings and animals. Animals behave like human beings. These tales are not told gratuitously. They have an educational objective: to inculcate in the children's mind values which will enable them to live in harmony within their communities and to be wise enough to cope successfully with certain life situations. The aim of this book is to let these tales be known by a large audience because, like La Fontaine's fables, they can be integrated to the world cultural heritage.
