80 ans après, il est toujours essentiel de faire comprendre cet événement aux plus jeunes
The Irish heritage of the Brontë family has long been overlooked, partly because both Charlotte and her father Patrick did their very best to ensure that this was the case and because of the determined effort at the end of the nineteenth century to keep the Brontës as Yorkshire regional novelists. Yet their ideas and attitudes, and perhaps even their storylines, can be traced to Ireland. This fully revised and updated book, originally published in 1986, sets the record straight. By tracing the Brontë family history and their cultural influences, it explores if Patrick's Irish ancestry prevent him from achieving his ambitions in his adoptive country; if there was a conflict between the cultural and social attitudes experienced by his daughters; and how these influences can be seen in the Brontë novels.
